Audio books have changed my life

June 14th, 2009 · No Comments

There’s no question.

I am very enthusiastic about books.

Books have been a big part of my life, since I was a little toddler. I started to love books as a child myself, as my parents made sure they instilled their own love of reading. I never had any problems at school with reading, unlike some of my friends.

I love to read, it has always been a joy. I didn’t even do it to get good grades at school, I did it because I loved it.

Like you would expect, I carried this love for books into my adulthood.

I love books that much that I even met my wife in the library, where I was going to get a best-selling novel.

Now that I have kids I still read. My children are really picking up on how much I love books, and it’s starting to rub off on them.

I used to make it a habit to read to my kids EVERY night before they go to bed, no matter how tired I am when I get home from my job.

At this point in my life, I had never realised that audio books were available to anyone and everyone – I never even knew that you could download audio books directly on the Internet.

I didn’t expect it to, but because I work long hours at my job, I always get very tired while reading to my kids at night. More and more frequently I have begun to drift off in the middle of reading the bedtime story!

There was just no way that I could continue reading to my children every night… unless I found another job that would take up less of my time (but still pay me good wage at the same time – impossible to find such a job, right?)

At that same time that I was thinking of that, I was promoted in my job. Unfortunately, this resulted in longer hours at work – a full hour before everyone else started, and another full hour after everyone else had gone home.

Sheesh, that’s an hour every morning reading motivational and inspirational chapters and an hour spent reading to my children after I get home from the office – all down the drain.

What a quandary I was in. My wife suggested I give up reading to my kids at nights, and she would do it instead, but I just couldn’t let that happen because she had too much to do herself, and I didn’t want to add more responsibilities for her.

I was still battling for a way out when I discovered audio books on a website I stumbled upon! The website was called Spoken Network. www.spokennetwork.com?cam=ama0005

Eureka… My life was saved.

6 weeks after I first discovered audiobooks, my quandary has ended.
