Who is in the Casket on Lost?
Edit - 5-29-08 - the Answer is John Locke
That is the question many people are asking after the ABC Lost Finale. Dr. Jack Sheppard in a “Flash Forward” scene reads in a newspaper about someone’s death. 
Here is the Newspaper Death Notice Transcribed:
“The body of John Lantham of New York was found shortly after 4 am in the 4300 block of Grand Avenue.
Ted Worden, a doorman at the Tower Lofts complex, heard loud noises coming from the victim’s loft.
Concerned for tenants’ safety, he entered the loft and found the body hanging from a beam in the living room.
According to Jaime Ortiz, a police spokesman, the incident was deemed a suicide after medical tests. Latham (sic) is survived by one teenaged son.
Memorial services will be held at the Hoffs-Drawlar Funeral Home tomorrow evening.”
So who is John Lantham of New York on Lost? Could it be John Locke? Could it be Ben? could it ever be Sawyer. 
There is some speculation that it might be the infamous BEN, because of the book that is lying next to the casket. Remember Ben always writes in his Journel and those two books look a lot alike.
There is also specualtion that John Locke is the Body in the Casket on LOST, just because of the fact no family or friends came to the viewing, and that the newspaper article mentions John Lantham of New York which could be John Locke.
( Note : Ben also had no family left.)
Could it be Sawyer? Whose Real Name was James Ford?

I think it’s Ben, that’s why Jack is feeling guilty. Ben was right and he was wrong and now he wants to set things right. The only hickup in the theory is the teenage son… Altough Alex is a teenager she’s not male…We’ll see

I agree that it is propbably Ben. Kate tells Jack that she had no reason to attend the funeral, so Michael and also John are out of the question.

Because jack wanted to came back to the island
Ben was the only one to tell him how or where
and kate have no reason to go to his funeral so jackwas depresed and drunk because there wasnt any chance to get back with ben dead and the teenager thing alex could be or maybe some son we dont know!!!

Think about this, it could be walt…. because small casket and locke saw his image on the island…thats kind of a ghost right?

Hey this isnt really related, but ‘Hoffs-Drawlar’ is an anagram of ‘Flash Forward’. You probably already knew that though lol.
I reackon its Micheal beacause he is the only character that i am aware of that has a teenage son. but it might also be Sawyer, because he cons Cassidy Phillips and gets her pregnant. However she gives birth to Clementine, a girl, rather than a son.
I guess it could really also be Loch or Ben or maybe even someone else, as we dont have enough information about them to find out if they have a son or not.

Well one thing I thought was interesting was that when asked if it was friend or family he said Neither. So I’d think it would be Ben more than Sawyer… however due to the fight with Locke and Jack it could very well be Locke…

i think it’s jack! in the future! after he dies, his soul, unable to find peace after leaving the island, roams around the alternate purgatory, to the original purgatory on the island. so he already died and went to the island, and then when he got off the island, he died again…IN PURGATORY! he then saw his own newspaper obit. and cried like a baby because he finally realized he was actually DEAD. You heard me. I know this sounds crazy, but just think about it. Read this again if you have to. Then watch all the episodes again with this in mind. You’ll see what i mean.

Hey “Austin,” I have to respectfully disagree with your theory. Primarily because Jack was never alive in the first place. (Watch Episode 3 Season One in fast forward. You’ll see what I mean).

It’s Jacob. It doesn’t say John, it says Jacob. Locke helps Jacob’s spirit be released back into his body & he leaves the island with the rest of them. Everyone thinks Jacob is insane when he tries to explain to people how he was nothing more than a spirit on the island, which eventually leads him to his suicide.

It has to be Michael, here is why.
1. It is a black neighborhood, Michael is a black guy with a teenage son.
2. Jack and Kate haven’t aged that much, so unless it is a charactor that we have yet to see, it is not that far into the future.
3. Michael has become the most unpopular charactor in the survivors, after what he did to the rest of them, so it is no surprize that no one was there to view him.

I think it is Ben. “Alex” is a name primarily used for a boy. Maybe the paper assumed it was a boy because of the name. I am hooked again!

I think it is Ben–though the Jack flashback is creepier and more interesting, like the ghost of Christmas past and all, and you see your own funeral!!! How sad—but remember, Alex is not Ben’s biological daughter, she was Rosseau’s and Ben stoler her away and raised her–the boy Karl however, that Alex loves - Ben never claimed him as his son….but….anyway, I suppose that would be too easy!
